Portraits - Within architecture there is a story.

untitled-1.jpg

This image was made in homage of my own personal history. I wanted to reflect me as well as some of the past that I have either heard about or have known.

Naturally the temple is to signify India and all its wonderous glory in its architecture as well as the Alberta prairie that I have grown up with and have wondered in my life. India was where a relative was born and to this day I heave never gone there. I know will go there someday as I have set a personal goal to get there.

Enjoy the long weekend, be safe and we shall see you in the fall

Portraits - Expression of Evan

dsc_7052.jpg

This little one steals my heart every time I see this image.

With his proud mother behind him, Evan, 8 months, smiles after getting a big snuggle from his uncle. It is a true joy to see a young baby smile at people that he loves and that he is a happy baby. I made this into black and white to capture the mood and the expression that this little one was doing.

I truly love children and always have since I was young. That is why I love capturing images of children’s expressions all the time. I want people to see what they really are like.

Portraits - Santana

dsc_3655_0.jpg

Santana is a wonderful man who has a great zest for life.

I wanted to reflect his personality as well have a little something else for him. He told me about how his mother still lives in Mexico and that was the reason that he wanted a portrait done. Then it hit me. This colourful mural I thought reflected who he was as well as paying homage to Mexico and all the colourful life that it inhabits.

Thank you Santana for the opportunity to know you better. It was lots of fun!

Portraits - Self

It has been a while since I have added something new here. I have been busy with finding new backgrounds for you guys. The adventure has taken me to places here in Edmonton that I never thought that I would know but I am greatful that I have taken on this project. There will be new places to show you soon but I have more to go.

For those people who have taken an interest in my 365 project, it is going very well indeed. I am over the half way mark and I still am enjoying it. It is interesting what I have learned about myself through this, and for the most part it has been eye opening to say the least. There were lots of things that I did know but there were some that I did not know. Very enlightening I should say.

Funny. I wonder if anyone FAMOUS is has even thought of doing this sort of thing. Can you imagine? Look at all the celebrities in the world that are having trouble in their lives. Imagine what a project like this can do for them!?!

Until the next time, which will be soon I promise I leave you with today’s image- Day 232. If you want to see the project so far please click on the link Melanie 365 and you shall see my personal journey….so far.

Portraits - Backgrounds

backgrounds.jpg

I am a fan of colour and I like to find something different all the time.

I like to make things interesting for my clients, part of that is to find other things that will interest both them and me. Presently most of you know that I am working on a self portraiture project. That includes shooting myself every day for a year. Most of the time in the winter I have been inside shooting, but spring has sprung and I am itching to shoot outside for the remainder of the project. In order to keep my images interesting I have to find new backgrounds for me to shoot in order to keep clients and myself happy with the variety that I provide.

There is nothing wrong with ordinary, I just want to do a little more to make it an extraordinary experience for everyone . If you are interested in having a bit of colour in your future portrait. Do not hesitate at all to contact me either through email or phone to talk about your portrait.

Portraits - Children

Sofia

Children. They are full of life and fill of energy.

They are miracles in their own right. Whether they are newborn or at the wonderful toddler age where they are running around and discovering the world around them. To them, everything is magical and wonderful.

All the more reason to get their portrait done when they are young. I personally like to get them as they are in whatever surrounding that they are in, either at the park or in a formal setting. I personally find it fun to shoot them. It keeps me on my toes.

If you are interested in getting your child’s portrait done, do not hesitate to call for an appointment.

Portrait - Michelle

look-into-my-eyes.jpg

I am not afraid of experimenting with portraiture at all! A couple of years ago I picked up a magazine and I saw the most amazing portrait ever. The woman was dressed in 1920’s makeup and clothing and I knew the perfect person to help me with this image.

Michelle. Michelle is a woman I have known since childhood and she can be the ultimate chameleon! I asked her to pose for me and she was more than ready to do anything that I asked of her. So after hair and makeup we got to shooting.

The major thing that I wanted to get from her was the mood in her eyes, they were going to be the prime focus, hence the name I gave this portrait - Look into my Eyes. After multiple tries I got the intensity I wanted and the look just followed through. The end result is what you see here. I am really happy with the result of this, and I am still looking to find another portrait that I can get some insight on. Really, it is ongoing.

Portraits - Self portrait for 366 days

2286417773_e6b29c50b81.jpg

This is a special project for me. I talk about insight into photographs all the time when I am taking them for clients. Well, I got to thinking about taking portraits of me. So I decided to shoot myself everyday for a full year. This ends up to be at least 366 days. I am proud to say that I have completed 107 images so far and I am having lots of fun in the process. Please go to the blog roll where there is a link to see the images so far.

This is very personal project for me as I would like to gain insight upon myself at the end of this process. If you have any ideas for me to shoot then send me an email with your idea. I will credit you with the suggestion.

Portraits - Meadow and Emerson

crw_2145_rjv.jpg

I have been getting lots of requests to shoot portraits later in the year. Slots are filling up quickly so make you booking today.

I love shooting Portraits. I like bringing out the best in people when I shoot. It doesn’t matter if they are babies, teens, adults and seniors. All you need to do is to book an appointment with me to get a time.

This image of Emerson with his mother Meadow is one of my personal favorites. You can tell that Emerson loves his mother very much. He was a preemie but he had lots of character as you can tell. In this image you can see that he is comfortable in the position that he is in. This is what I love about shooting babies and children…nothing is contrived and it is what it is.

Portraits - Scarlet Mystery

scarlet-g.jpg

Scarlet Mystery” the first time that I learned about “insight” in images.

I just did this for fun and submitted this into competition to see how it would do. The scores ranged from excellent to not accepted. The judge that saved this print said that the image was very representative about the red light district and that the woman is rough looking and did not have a smile for a reason. When I heard this being said I remember thinking what is he talking about? This man had insight and was looking beyond what the image was to see what the story was.

From that day on, I decided to find insight in all the images that I took either professionally or for personal reasons. And I have not looked back.
