This place is simply amazing.

I was only there for a week and I just barely scratched the surface of the history there. It is a desert. Lots cacti everywhere and barely any grass.

Even though it is a desert. There were blue skys, no clouds, warm temperatures. Perfect for a getaway! The history of the Indian people there is many stories too many to tell in this short area.

Now it is back to work for the fall/winter season.

Travel - Maui

Well…it has been a while since I traveled and this September I was able to do just that.

I went to the luscious island of Maui, HI for a 10 holiday and I simply could not believe what was there. Everyone talks about the beaches and the ocean. From what I experienced with Maui was lots of hiking, old lava flows and simply the Hawaiian culture and mythology was fascinating.

This image was taken at the 7 waterfalls near the village of Hana. for those who are interested in a little trivia, Hana was the area in Maui where the opening scene of the movie Jurassic Park was filmed. This was pretty much what the weather was like. Warm sun, cool breezes, refreshing water and gorgeous foliage. I had a great time over there and yes I took lots of photos, hence why I am posting this now rather than when I got back in mid Septemeber.

Believe it or not I am going for another trip…to the USA again. To Phoenix, AZ. Until that is finished have a great weekend.

untitled-1.jpg

This image was made in homage of my own personal history. I wanted to reflect me as well as some of the past that I have either heard about or have known.

Naturally the temple is to signify India and all its wonderous glory in its architecture as well as the Alberta prairie that I have grown up with and have wondered in my life. India was where a relative was born and to this day I heave never gone there. I know will go there someday as I have set a personal goal to get there.

Enjoy the long weekend, be safe and we shall see you in the fall

Weddings - Jonathan and Allison (East meets West)

This wedding for the weekend, on 08/09/08 was simply brilliant!

Jonathan and Allison got married in Manville, AB and had their images done at Lakeland College. These two along with their loving families as well (where one half of the family and bridal party came from Nova Scotia!) as a very efficient bridal party completely had the time of their lives! This union that took place was one of the best that I have ever done in my career. Jonathan and Allison were up for anything in their images and I was only happy to oblige. They went though extreme heat in order to get the shots that they wanted without complaint.

It was a honour to shoot such a loving couple and there are many memories that will be cherished from it. I know that I have one of a brand new lodge that was built and finished just in time for their day.

Many happy years of marital bliss for the happy couple! Jonathan and Allison Prill.

Portraits - Expression of Evan

This little one steals my heart every time I see this image.

With his proud mother behind him, Evan, 8 months, smiles after getting a big snuggle from his uncle. It is a true joy to see a young baby smile at people that he loves and that he is a happy baby. I made this into black and white to capture the mood and the expression that this little one was doing.

I truly love children and always have since I was young. That is why I love capturing images of children’s expressions all the time. I want people to see what they really are like.

Santana is a wonderful man who has a great zest for life.

I wanted to reflect his personality as well have a little something else for him. He told me about how his mother still lives in Mexico and that was the reason that he wanted a portrait done. Then it hit me. This colourful mural I thought reflected who he was as well as paying homage to Mexico and all the colourful life that it inhabits.

Thank you Santana for the opportunity to know you better. It was lots of fun!

It has been a while since I have added something new here. I have been busy with finding new backgrounds for you guys. The adventure has taken me to places here in Edmonton that I never thought that I would know but I am greatful that I have taken on this project. There will be new places to show you soon but I have more to go.

For those people who have taken an interest in my 365 project, it is going very well indeed. I am over the half way mark and I still am enjoying it. It is interesting what I have learned about myself through this, and for the most part it has been eye opening to say the least. There were lots of things that I did know but there were some that I did not know. Very enlightening I should say.

Funny. I wonder if anyone FAMOUS is has even thought of doing this sort of thing. Can you imagine? Look at all the celebrities in the world that are having trouble in their lives. Imagine what a project like this can do for them!?!

Until the next time, which will be soon I promise I leave you with today’s image- Day 232. If you want to see the project so far please click on the link Melanie 365 and you shall see my personal journey….so far.

Engagement - Jonathan and Allison

With rain in the forecast for the whole day, Jonathan and Allison braved the weather and came out to the photo session for their engagement. It turned out that it was a beautiful morning where we had a lot of fun taking images. Both were eager to do anything as they braved mud, dipped and was turned upside down in order to get the shot done.

Their wedding is in August and I simply can not wait to see what is going to happen on that day. From what I gathered at the photo shoot, this couple enjoys each other’s company and have crazy fun in their relationship!

Portraits - Backgrounds

I am a fan of colour and I like to find something different all the time.

I like to make things interesting for my clients, part of that is to find other things that will interest both them and me. Presently most of you know that I am working on a self portraiture project. That includes shooting myself every day for a year. Most of the time in the winter I have been inside shooting, but spring has sprung and I am itching to shoot outside for the remainder of the project. In order to keep my images interesting I have to find new backgrounds for me to shoot in order to keep clients and myself happy with the variety that I provide.

There is nothing wrong with ordinary, I just want to do a little more to make it an extraordinary experience for everyone . If you are interested in having a bit of colour in your future portrait. Do not hesitate at all to contact me either through email or phone to talk about your portrait.
